Can the UltraCart by PowerClimb work in DWMX?
20 Nov 2002 07:49:19 James Lee posted:
Hello Everybody,I am still evaluating DWMX and I can say it sure functions very differently from UltraDev 4. I am using UltraCart by POwerClimb ( a free download) to do e-shopping. When I try to use the Add Cart Via Link command inside the UltraDev Cart, I got an error saying :
"While executing onLoad in UC_AddToCartViaLink_ASP.htm, the following javascript error(s) occurred. At line 305 of file "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Dreamweaver MX\Configuration\shared\UltraDev\Scripts\ssDocManager.js Type Error: listControlCons is not a constructor."
So what shall I do? I am using ASP model with Vbscript. Can this UltraCart be used with DWMX or shall I use another Cart? Which cart can use with DWMX?
THanks everybody for reading this!

Hello Peggy,
I believe Powerclimb stopped supporting this extention back in 2000. And I doubt it is compatible with DWMX.
There are alternatives though:
www.dmxzone.com/showDetail.asp?TypeId=3&NewsId=1816
It comes with an extensive tutorial by Rolf Herbert.
Hope that helps you.

I have also found that It will not suppport the 'add to cart' via link, but everything else seems to work ok. You can get around this ('all be it' with an additional click) by using a go to detail link, ie please confirm your selection (then add to cart via form on this page), not ideal but the rest of the benifits of upgrading to to DWMX outweigh not doing it.
Hope my humble opium (^) helps.

HI,
You show an add to cart button by the item (in the list of items) but it not actually an add to cart function instead it is a 'go to detail' button. (Just like a normal detail page) When you get to the detail page you show all or some of the item details with a button that says "Please confirm your selection" which is actualy the add to cart function which is in a form so you are realy using an a'dd to cart via form' which gets around the problem.
This can also be useful if you want to keep a site lean (or pass directly from non to secure space for single item sales without having to use a database to create a tracking number and insert the cart contents and then have to extract it again at the other end)
All you have to do is pass the product code as a variable from anywhere on the site, or another site (you also do not need the cart function on every page either) and the pick up page will find the product (Note you also not not pass the price over so it can not be changed by the viewer)
Another thing this can be useful for is when you have variations on a product you could make the product description a hidden field on the pick up page and them merge serveral fields or variables in to one description ie "1 x wigdet in blue size 4 with optional wozel stick".
As I said it is not ideal but is an option.
Hope this helps.........
