Packaging an extension or object for DW

I have been trying to download a DW object that is posted on another site, but it comes through as a MS Excel doc -- it is not an .mxp file. I've sent a couple of e-mails to the site owner, without success so far. Is there anything I can do to make this work? I'm downloading to a Mac -- G4 dual. Much thanks in advance.
