Dear Emma,
No decent search engines read the meta tags anymore - you need to submit to Google, then work on getting quality linkbacks to your site - read:

Dear Emma,
Your server logs indicate who has spidered your site - I think you need to do a lot of reading, start at:
wwww.webmasterworld.com
I imagine you have an inordinate amount of free time, so this shouldn't be a problem.
Regards,
Brent

I assume that your web space is free with a Freeserve account, you don't usually have access to logs or stats with free space accounts.
Bear in mind that it can take several weeks, sometimes months before a site is indexed and included in the search results.
Be realistic, if your site's subject is specialist or niché, you just aren't going to get the sort of hits that a site devoted to a very popular topic will get, there are just less people searching for thr subject in the first place. Converseley, if you have a site devoted to a very popular and common subject, which has many competing sites, getting it to come high in the results is very, very hard.
Not all search engines work in the same way and there are some things that effect the ratings that you don't have a great deal of control over, like: how many other sites link to yours and how many times the link from the search engine to your site was used.
All in all, it's a bit of a black art, but try this lot: www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&newwindow=1&q=search+engine+optimization+tips&btnG=Google+Search

If you can spend some money I recommend Quicksubmit (125 SEARCH ENGINES) it will cost you £69 but it works fast, and your site gets reindexed every 48h.www.webwurld.com/products.cfm?CFID=1453&CFTOKEN=76335440&time=044105&&productGroupID=2&productID=0&area=more
