Hi,

Let me explain : I'm translating a Web medical site. The creator of the English
version used the Dreamweaver MX software to prepare the site. So, I'm
supposed to use the free version of it to create the French one. I've
dowloaded it. The problem is that I don't know how to differencate a
"static" website/page from a "dynamic" one. The software's help says that it
is recognizable from the script. The question is how ?? Because when I want
to create a new site (the French one), they ask me 2 questions : No, I don't
want to use a server technology, or Yes, I want to use a server technology.
I don't know what to do. Please, help. (Please note that the on-line help of
Dreamweaver is absent on week-ends !! -while us, we are presen and working - for me a good software company has no week-ends, because us, the real important cients in the world (consultants, translators, etc.) have none either - <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>
What they call a "server technology" is of the following type : ASP.Net,
ASP, JSP, PHP, or ColdFusion. The problem (once more) is that the help
sites addresses they give for 3 of these types of application servers are
"unavailable" !!
Here is the copy of the script of the original English version of the site
:
(I've just copied the begining of the code page (In View&gt; Source)
corresponding to the index page of the site, and replaced any reference to
the real site by "ZZZ..."

Take care
P.S: If I get no answer in the 4 coming years, I won't buy your products, and I'm not sure I will recommend them to my international subscribers (i.e. around 3,000 members worldwide on both lists)
Thank you

Excusse me, please, but I am so exhausted to be unable to complete my job order before tonight, that I dared to write " If I get no answer in the 4 coming YEARS", while I was of course meaning "in the 4 coming HOURS". I'm sorry, but I hate softwares which are not able to describe each element of their building, even for naive users, as I am. When I load a page through your software, I want to see, at first glance and I'm not the only one !!!, if it's a dynamic or a static one. I'm a physician specializing in genetics, I've no time to lose with such stupid issues ! Could you improve your site in such a way that the most HTML-ignorant of us could understand what you mean. Thank you. If I've not understood, with your help, before 7PM (GMT+1), I'd lose USD 4,598. Thank you.

well this seems prety easy to me??? if the extension file name is HTML or HTM then you know there is no server side technology. JSP/ASP/CFM then there is server side, also the macromedia sit e is not closed on weekends, its a web site, it never closes!! seem to mee your suggesting they turn of the dreamweaver online help section.

P.S. i could not imagine becoming a physician specializing in genetics within 4 hours? why do you think you can be a web guy?

I saw this thread and found it pretty amussing.

I am wondering if she is still employed. She sounded like it would be the end of her career if she didnt get an answer from someone on here in less than four hours.

When I need medical help I go to a doctor or physician. The reason is verry simple, I don´t want to mess up my body. So if you don´t want to mess up your code... consult a proffesional programmer...

You say you use a FREE evaluation copy of dreamweaverMX and you want them to respond like.... right now...????

Is that so ?

Now what if I set my mappings so that .htm pages are passed from IIS to my coldfusion server for parsing, you only see .htm in the adress bar but in fact you are browsing coldfusion pages <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

I think this is a joke though, no employer gives you a time limit where the other site is not available for database sharing, besides why would they want a completely different site for just french translations ? It means doubling everything, webserver, database, man-hours.

And every beginner knows you cannot save a .CFM, .ASP, .ASPX, .JSP, .PHP page, you end up with a htm page, it simply doesn't work that way.

It's funny though, some people think this site is related to Macromedia, go figure <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_shock.gif border=0 align=middle>

it's a shame you guys got to this before i did.

people like this (arrogant and completely unaware of the way the internet works) really piss me off. they leech and suck from the opensource community when it suits them and reckon themselves far too important to be 'bothered with these issues'. ("I'm a physician specializing in genetics, I've no time to lose with such stupid issues". well- like biohazart pointed out, if you're some kind of genetic supergenius you should then be introduced to a new concept: trained, educated programmers who understand and deal with these issues on a dialy basis.

the opensource community is not responxible for your incompetence nor is it ever going to help anyone who holds it liable for your particular problem, especially when you act like an arrogant prick. and macromedia is not responsible for none of the above either. macromedia MX is developed for web developers of all ranges. the way you utilise its technology is completely proportional to your knowledge. if you don't know shit you can't do shit.

i'll stop ranting now.
