is there a way to keep layers from resizing when text is entered into them. if i set a layer to 300x300 pixels and add lots of text, it makes the layer appear to look like a rectangle. Is there a way do make it "dynamic" so stay say ... somewhat like a dynamic text box in flash. having a bunch of rectangles... they show up fine as squares in browser... makes it very difficult to layout in dreamweaver.

If i am understanding what you want, then try this.

1) Create your layer and specify the size that you want in the properties box. It will extend in length only to show you in the editor.

2) With the layer selected, locate the dropdown menu labeled "overflow" and select "auto"

Then preview your page in a browser. It will then make it appear something like an iframe.

I hope that makes sense and helps you out.

I'd like to add a little bit to saleblitz' post - whenever I'm putting text into layers I put it into a table first. While, technically, you shouldn't NEED to, it does help keep some of the text issues under control.

Setting "overflow:auto" will not give you scrollbars in most browsers, so I guess using some DHTML scroller or an iframe would be a better option.
