Website Will not display Fireworks page
12 Aug 2003 19:33:47 lee bag posted:
Im having such a headache with this. I have just redesigned my website using Fireworks MX. I designed the pages using Fireworks, saved them to the clipboard, and then pasted them into the appropriate Dreamweaver page. Uploaded them to the server and everything seemed fine. I can view the website on my machine no probs but if I check the site out on another persons machine, the pages I did on FireworksMX will not work. They just show the small box with the red X inside.Any ideas what Im doing wrong?
The site is at www.wiredinstalls.com
I hope someone can assist me
Thanks Lee

Hi Lee, I've just had a look at your page, it looks to me like you haven't defined your site within Dreamweaver. The path to your image is pointing to your computer.

it should look something like this.
src="Website Pics/Why%20Choose%20Wired%20Aug%2003.gif" width="978" height="800" border="0" usemap="#m_Why20Choose20Wired20Aug2003
Just a little tip: try not to use spaces in your image name like this
<b>Why%20Choose%20Wired%20Aug%2003.gif</b>
use _ or - instead like this
<b>Why_Choose_Wired_Aug_2003.gif</b>
hope this helps, if not post back and I'll try to explain a little better.

Thanks Wayne, I will give it another try. I went through the help topics in Dreamweaver and had defined my remote server as FTP (which it is). Do I therefore need to put my original Fireworks files onto the remote server as well as the HTML files? (the ones which are currently pointing to my computer)
Im sure you can tell, im fairly new at this.....
Thanks also for the advice on the_spacing_between_words...
I appreciate it..... Lee

Lee you also need to define a local site. This should be defined to a folder on your computer where you save all the files for your site.
It looks to me like you have them saved on your desktop in a folder called Wired Folder.
You need to define your local site to this folder. Then when you add anything to your web page it will make everything relative to the folders inside.
When it comes to upload your files login to your web space, there you should have a folder called htdocs or something like that you upload everything in side the folder you defined as your local site the one on your desktop or where ever it is in to the folder on the remote server.
Hope it helps, again if you need more help or anything clarifying just post back and I’ll see if i can help.

Thanks Wayne... I think its all okay now. It was a mix-up on my part ... I had defined the site in the remote and local sides previously which is why I couldnt understand why the Fireworks files didnt work. After I exported them to the clipboard I made the error of opening the Dreamweaver page where I wanted to paste them to without re-drawing the relevent sized layout box. (I had just pasted without creating a layout box to paste inside). When I did it correctly it copied the associated files into the remote and local folders correctly. Do you understand?? haha Im new as I say... haha
Well, take a look at the site now. See if its working.
By the way Wayne.... what do you think the best dimension size for a webpage should be?? I designed mine with 1024 res in mind.... maybe that was a mistake and I should have gone lower..... oh well
Thankyou again . hope this helps others out too....

Hi Lee,
Had a look at your site, it looks good.
Don't know if it's suppose to be, but the Guest book isn't working!
