I have created a table. I need to spit a cell. When I try to split the cell my whole table expands and I can't make the table smaller(or back to the original size). Why does this happen.? What can I do to fix it?

From the top bar select Modify/Table/Split Cell and select columns, the number should be "2". It should not change size appreciably, but keep in mind that cellspacing and cellpadding may affect it a little. You can also highlight cells (plural) and reverse this and merge cells..across/ down or both together based on your highlighting. If you do need to you can adjust the width of your overall table in the code where it says table width="300" or whatever

thanks for the reply, but maybe I wasn't clear....I know how to split and merge cells..but what's happening is that when i split a cell into two rows, it puts a space between another cell making the table height larger...when i try to change the table height back to the original, it will not go back....the only way to get my original size of the table back is to not split the cell ..can u help me
