I have a client who would like text partially over an image, I thought I would use layers to do this. I have used layers before, but this was the first time I noticed that when the size of the screen changes the layer moves about too. How can I make the layer stay where I put it?

Layers are absolute positioned, so they get a fixed coordinate in relation to the top/left corner of the document.

From your description I understand you're using either a fluid or a centered table layout. That means that actually the table moves when the window is resized, while the layer doesn't. The layer keeps its fixed coordinate.

If you want the layer to move with your table, then you need to 'snap' the layer to something in that table, eg. to an image. Check out the SnapLayer extension at www.projectseven.com: it can do the layer snapping for you.

Hope this helps.
