I'm using Dreamweaver MX and I am having the following problem:

I have changed the Page Title of my site to the name I want my site to have, but it isn't taking, and the Page Title still comes up as "Untitled Document."

I have even changed the actual title in the code view. Still no luck.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hmm. I'll take a guess. Often if you type text into the 'title' field (at the top of your document window), unless you either click in the design view afterwards to 'refresh' the page (or hit the 'Refresh Design View' icon/F5) it may not get written into the document. Does that help address your problem or at least explain what may be going on? Let me know if not.

Did U save the page, sometimes it has asterisk when u make change, make sure that goes before you view page.

Yep- same thing. However, sometimes even if you hit 'save' after changing the title via the document window header field, the title change won't be saved unless you hit F5/Refresh Design View first to 'update the page'. Quirk, I know- but F5/Refresh Design View is definitely the magic step if this bug affects you. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hi Scott,
Thank you for the tip. However, I tried it, but still no luck. It still remains labeled "Untitled Document" even after I save it, refresh it, change the title, rechange the title, save it again, etc.

I heard a rumor that it might be a permanent glitch in Dreamweaver MX. Have you heard anything like that?

Could the problem possibly be the fact that I don't use Dreamweaver MX to upload the contents of my site? I prefer to use SmartFTP, so I built the site on Dreamweaver without "defining a site" and going through the whole hassle of making a connection through Dreamweaver.

Does this make sense? I am relatively new at this, so if I am confusing you in my explanation, I apologize and will try to clarify if needed.

Thank you.

Ok,

So you have the page, open it by right-clicking on it in "whereever u have it on your hard disk" open in dreamweaver, change title, make sure u saved it, then open up the file "whereever u have it on your hard disk"

Problems still happening?

Just send the CODE for see where is the problem..!!
Anyway, try saving the page and then open it directly from the path U save it. as long U do not refresh the page, it seems nothing changed, but most of the times it works open it in this way: typing the path of the page!

Hi TheVit76,

Does the page you are trying to change the title happen to be in a Frameset?

Many times, people change title of a page in one of frames, leaving the title of the Frameset "Untitled Document".

If this is your case, what you can do to see any changes made to the title is to change the title of the Frameset to whatever you want.

That might be the problem. I do have it in a frameset and must have accidentally left it Untitled, so I will change it and see what happens and will be back to let you know.
Thank you to everyone for all your help.

Yip, just like he said. You should not change the title on the pages in the frames. You should open the frameset page itself and change the title there.
This should solve your problem.
