I need a wall to smash my head against. I come from using Frontpage, but realised I needed something slightly more powerful and a bunch of extensions to help upload images, so have tried using DW MX2004.
What a pain in the arse software it is, especially the local and remote files, not realising your working on local when you want to be working on remote, then the two go out of sync, and then the remote won't update from the local, and when you view the page you see a tmp version of the file, which maybe from the local or the remote, WHO KNOWS!!!.
Why can't I just work on the remote ?
I don't care about the local files....
The are several other things that are doing my head in about this product but it can wait.

I can see that your so used to using FP and that now you've migrated to a superior product such DWMX 2004 that you, your miss the things you could do with FP.

Once you get the hang of DW MX2004 you won't use anything else.

Creating a temp version of a file can be solved by looking under Edit | Preferences the select the Preview in Browser options

Keep on working with DVMX, you will learn to love it.

lol i thought exactly the same when i migrated to Dreamweaver 3 from frontpage a long time ago <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

plainy put, frontpage has nothing on dw, it's so inferior i think dw scares people when they open it up.

Dave

I'm not scared by it, I just find it awkward to use. I have'nt even got to using its design capabilities yet, I'm still struggling to get any db based web working on anything other than my own IIS5 server.
Thinking of posting username and password to web site to let others see just what I'm going through.
Have spent all day trying to get my test db based web working on aspwebserver.com site.
Managed to get pages seeing db but they all had to be in root of web, and then I found the insert page would'nt work, just comes back with http:500 error module not found, I look up module not found and guess what no-one seems to have heard of that one...
Am now try with differant connection string on db, connection works, but test page now refers to a missing physical path !!
I'm about ready to give up....

I was a user of frount page but now I wouldnt touch it with a barge poll, once you get your head around setting up the site correctly to begin with everything is a breeze, go to www.webthang.co.uk for a good quick tutorial as to how to set up site for the first time.
