How do I get the cross-browser autoscroller not to scroll my Netscape or Firebird browser window when the autoscroller starts?

My web page with the problem:

darius.mobius-soft.com/~jamie/

All is fine in IE, but in Netscape or Mozilla Firebird, a scrollbar appears on the browser and starts scrolling the browser window with the autoscroller (although the browser window doesn't move, just the scrollbar).

Same thing happens with the example/demo code here:

Just make your Netscape or Firebird browser really small so that it needs a scrollbar. Then when the autoscroller starts, the scrollbar size will change and start moving. Really bugs me! (Scroller Genie also seems to suffer from this.)

If I change the position from absolute to relative, the browser window scrollbars go away. So I'm happy now.

Well, crap. It looks great in IE6, Firebird 0.7, and NN4. But it's messed up in NS7:

Any ideas?
