I'm trying to find a tutorial that will show me how to create a web page that will have a bunch of pdf files on it. there are about 300 pdf files on various topics.I would like to create a search page so that you could type in a few key words and a results page would be displayed with a short description of what the pdf is about and a link option to download the pdf file. is this hard to do? I put a message on the dreamweaver forum and someone said that if I have all my pdf files in one area that the search will search all the pdf files becauser they are supertext. Is it just searching the title of the file or is it truly searching the whole file? any way if some one knows of a tutorial that would tell me how to do this that would be cool and the help would be muchly appreciated.

Well after much surfing i have finally solved the problem. There are programs out there that will do it. They all cost money, though there is one free one called ATOMZ Search for small web pages but the free version doesn't do pdf files. A good web page to help you find out what you need to know for searchable web pages is www.searchtools.com/
and I think from what I can tell is you want to go Java applet searches because most servers can handle java and don't need something special installed on the server to make work. What i want to know now is does coldfusion mx do searchable pdf because I can't figure out quite what it does

Maybe not the answer to your question but well worth looking into, I use Index Service on IIS for searching and it will look at the content of word, excel docs etc and return search results accordingly. It may work with PDF, check it out. If so, you have got yourself a great search tool
