Thought id start this thread to see if any of you guys experience the same hair-ripping instabilities with the MX family...I had Dreamwever 3.0 ...
This was fine, pretty stable and fast.
Updated to MX...
Slower, but still appeared quite stable.
Upgraded to Studio MX....and included the 7.01 updater
The damn thing is riddled with instabilities.....sometines DW wont start, I get the splash screen then crash!! its gone.
(and it'll never start again)
Sometimes i get a MEMORY CANNOT BE READ error.. then it dissappears.
So i tried rerunning the updater...it tells me MX 2004 isnt installed where it is.
So i tried reinstalling Studio MX...
Still crashes...
So i uninstalled Studio MX 2004 and reinstalled The original Dreamweaver MX.
It works now....woohoo... but settings are gone.. (luckily theres a cool mm-exporter tool)
Now ill reinstall studio MX 2004
But i think ill give the 7.01 updater a miss.
No help on macromedia.com and googled till my googles hurt but no joy...
I know this is a MM zone but dudes...i cant afford to spend 2 hours of my working day trying to get my software to work.
Im going to revert to Visual Studio.NET as my commercial development tool.
I have to say im very dissapointed with MM....surely software should become more stable as it is updated and developed?
Anyone else experienced similar woes...and also..was there a simpler fix for my problem.!

long time no see leed.
yeah, ive had my share of problems with it too. can't even get it to work on my pc anymore, just hangs and then throws .js errors.
trouble is trying to get rid of all the prduct info in the registry, otherwise a re-install is pointless. i even had to revert back to ultradev for the better part of last year as i struggled to get things working together.
ive heard nothing but bad things about the updater, and did run it on the pc install, so staying well away from it on my laptop, as it's the only working version i've got running, and if i lost that i'm screwed.

Dave

Your spot on Dave,
I had to go and manually clean my registry of MX 2004 entried and reinstall the lot...now operational again. ..... phew
Once agin it is running pretty sharp...but how long before it goes tits up again?
DWMX is based around a pretty simple model of a lot of stand alone js scripts...right. So i presume this type of fatal corruption is caused by a corruption to one of those scripts.....
i would have thought MM would have provide a repair for it....
anyway....its my pal again just now but hes on his last warning....<img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle>
PS
I have been scarce because i'm the proud owner of one brand-spanking new, beautiful wee lassie..
(in fair exchange for all my spare time!!)<img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have big problems (Since the 7.01 update).
It now fucks up my code.
Tried to do a simple insert in a db.
My form was called form1.
This is what the insert record-sb makes of it:
<f ACTION="<%=MM_editAction%>"orm namform1rm1" methoPOSTget">
Great stuff huh?
The client is allways right even if he is not.

I've just bought Studio MX 2004, and am already experiencing problems not had on MX & UD4.
My current problem is with using Access ODBC connections. But seeing as MM seem to be getting into the complexities that Microsoft revel in, its hard to see which one is causing the problem!
But essentially, I believe that MM had a great product and also great vision, but allowed their market pepole to dominate at the expense of consolidation and simplification of the product.
I've been writing software for 30 years, & know how easy it is for a simple program to evolve from a battery of enhancements & maintenance to a beast that sort of does what it used to do, but can do other things as well -but essentially is useless, as it is no longer stable & is susceptical to the vagaries of whatever Operating System release is current - and if it's Windows - then you have the added joy of witnessing the overblown app trying to interact with the overblown OS. In other words, unless you have a sparkling new stripped down and lean system, you ain't got a chance in hell!
Wake up you software giants! and start to think simple again!
PS.I remember when Apple first launched the MAC (circa 1984), and you got the entire OS on a single floppy! ... And it took Microsoft 10 years to get an approximation of it - & called it Win95 - & that carried all the baggage & dross of its previous OSA's (MS-DOS, 3.1 etc).
If that wasn't bad enough - what is worse, is that we put up with it!
Sorry to rant - but it does explain a bit why we suffer now.

I agree with you campbela,
well everything except about the macs...theyre just etch-a-sketches are they not?
lol
(The reason their OS came on a single floppy was cos it was mainly firmware based and therefore already in the box, unlike the software based windows 95 or windows 3.1 before that or 3.0 or 286 or 386 or 2.0 or 1.0 before that.)
PPS....
Windows announced - Novermber 1983
Windows 1.0 Released - November 1985

I'm not sure if this is the tool you described, it's free and looks great, called <i>MM-Exporter</i>: mm-exporter.joexx.de
MM-Exporter is executable under Win 98x, ME, NT, W2k, XP (English/German), supports:
<ul><li>Drewamweaver 4, DWUD, DWMX and DWMX 2004</li><li>Contribute 1, 2 and 3</li><li>Fireworks MX and Fireworks MX 2004</li><li>Flash 5, Flash MX and Flash MX 2004</li></ul>
