I am woking with PHP an MYSQL.

I have a client who has a Very large PDF file. They want it on there website but in some form that the user can view it on the page. The problem is a lot of there customers are on dial up so opening the whole file at once.

Now it gets deeper... I relise I could save the pdf into html in sections, but they need to be able to update the file as it often changes.

Any suggestions would really help.

It's a very bad idea if you ask me. You're bending over backwards trying to please a costumer who's nowhere near your current level at the web development evolution ladder.

I've had discussions with a lot of costumers on how to display data - and I've always managed to throw away ideas like that one.

Why not just do a database solution which DW i pretty good at?

My 5 cents...

I agree I would rather take the time to lay it out with a database back end. They are backing away from that idea because of the size of the pdf and having to put it all into the database. Then of course ther is always the old " Well if I have to change the pdf, then I have to change the website!" My answer to that is "Deal with it" but I can't exactly say that out loud!

So I am just checking to see if anyone has a better idea.

I agree with Dave, they are paying you for your knowledge and advice, they should take it or why bother paying you?

Present them with two options, their one that would take say 20 hours to maintain a week and then yours, 1 hour a week.....that always works!
