I want to be able to open a specific page within a frameset on my web-site when a surfer clicks on a hyperlink on an external site.

Whenever I try to specify a path, the browser always defaults to the welcome page of my web-site within the frameset. What is the correct syntax for opening other pages <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle><font face='Verdana'></font id='Verdana'>

there is none,

the link will always open the frameset, not the page inside, otherwise you wouldnt need frames.

I mean I want to open a specific page other than the home page inside the frameset. There must be a way to jump straight to a page within a frameset from an external hyperlink, without going via a navigation menu on the web-site. <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_question.gif border=0 align=middle>

Please tell me it's not impossible. It seems so simple. I feel stupid asking the question.

it is not possible by normal means, as the page inside the frame is an orphan on the frameset.

look here :
www.netmechanic.com/news/vol5/javascript_no7.htm

there is a script further down the page if you read it that may help you do what you want.

Dave

Dave,

I must admit, I found it hard to believe that there is no way to do this thing, but I accept it now. It seemed so simple and yet I couldn't find any information in the Dreamweaver help section, or even on the Macromedia knowledgebase. Your comments were invaluable. Thanks.

frames are a waste of time in most cases.

you'd be much better off using server side includes or even a just creating a page to act as a template for your work (and i dont mean a dreamweaver template, they are a waste of time too)

Dave
