Don't have an aswer for this one but I do know some web developers who have used GoLive and switched to DW. They said that DW is much more robust and powerful. How exactly? I don't know and that's the question.
You can look at it from a non-technical point of view. Adobe creates Graphics Suites. The best in the market. GoLive is their addition to that suite to allow the ability to create web sites. There expertise is in Graphics.
Macromedia creates Web Dev Suites and Fireworks was added to add graphics software to the suite. They create the best web dev product but not graphics.
So maybe this is why Adobe Photoshop CS is the best Graphics suite out there. They are a graphics company and Dreamweaver is the best Web Dev suite since it's what they do as a company. Each company offers the other apps as part of their suite, but Adobe is better at graphics and Macromedia is better at Web Dev.
I know this is dumb, but just a thought. If you find a true answer, please share.
