Hi
This is the first time i'm connecting a database file (Access) to my webpage. The thing is i am not sure how to establish a connection to the file, or setup an URL for the testing server, as dreamweaver keeps telling me that a connection cannot be established!!! Any suggestions???
Many Thanks in Advance<b></b>

to connect you either need to use a DSN setup in ODBC, or a connection string.

which one are you trying to connect with?

what operating system are you running? as xphome does not come with any testing server software. for xp pro, you need to install IIS, which gives you a testing server url of

c:\inetpub\wwwroot\ or the equivalent localhost/

give some more info on what software your using

Stick the XP CD back in your cd drive and Install additional components
Or you can get to it from Add Remove Programs&gt; Add / Remove Windows Components and then selecting it in there

xp home doesnt support IIS.

there is a way to include certain files off the xp pro system but this is a complicated procedure from what i've heard and don't really know much about it.

Yeah - the other Mods are right, you can't use IIS or PWS on an XP Home install... unless you want to start editing your inf files.
www.15seconds.com/issue/020118.htm has the details of a workaround.

Will i still be able to produce a database driven website on XP Home without a IIS type server?
Replied 08 Mar 2005 17:21:42
08 Mar 2005 17:21:42 Simon Martin replied:
The webserver interprets the dynamic code, requesting the data from the database you specify - without that you wont be able to test your pages at all.
So you will either need to install an alternative to IIS, such as apache - and then install chilli ASP (because Apache doesn't natively support ASP as I recall)
OR find somewhere that does have a webserver so you can test. Now you could do your testing right on your production server (on your host) but keep that in a testing directory so its not obvious to anyone who happens to find themself at your existing website.

If you can get IIS working I would go with that option. Its less hassle overall.
