how to use absolute links

sorry i'm sure this is an easy question but i can't find help anywhere...

In dreamwever MX how do set an absolute link it's been doing my head in all day every time i put a link in to another site it put's www.freedom-uk.com/www.whateverurl.com

i understand that most links within the site are Site relative but what if i don't want it to be?
not that good with html but maybe someone could tell me the tag for it or something...
any help appreciated

A relative link will show like this:
<a href="../link.html">Text link</a> or <a href="link.html">text link</a>

An absolute link will look like this:
<a href="www.website.com/link.html">text Link</a>
