I'm totally new to Dreamweaver MX 2004. My company has asked me to take over editing thier website since all the web developers have left. I'm typically a application programmer using linux. I will be remoting into a windows server to do all this work. The web site is on 5 different servers behind a layer 7 load balancing "serveriron". All I want to do is be able to edit the pages as I wish and to post. I know the ftp connection works because i have download parts of the site. If someone can give me a link to a good turtorial or howto that would be awesome.

A man with all your technical know how should be able to use the DW WYSIWYG format easly enough. If all you want to do is edit and post, just import your sites root into DW and away you go.
