Hello,

I'm trying to install MySQL (latest version 5.0.22) on my Windows XP Pro testserver, but I'm not getting through the Config Wizard to get an instance running.
Always getting error : "The service could not be started. Error:0"
A "my.ini" file is created however in the root installation directory.

I installed MySQL with most common default settings.

Anyone who knows what can be the problem ?

You probably need an odbc driver. dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html

Thanks Roddy,

Got it finally running, although I have to start MySQL from the command prompt.
Automatic startup doesn't work.
Biggest problem now is to set up PHP with GD2 extension, which is quite difficult.
I'll post this issues in the PHP forum when I keep getting problems.
If you know of a good, step-by-step tutorial about setting up PHP on a Windows server, this would be greatly welcome !

Thanks for your help,

Wim

you can try xampp www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html.
This has everything in built, am not sure if it does have gd2 but you can always try, but it will have mysql, php, perl, mod_ssl etc..
