I need help......

Can anyone tell me how to link a file that will open up an application that's associated to it from a web page.

Example. I want to link a picture that when clicked will open up a 3D software (loaded locally) that will view a file. If I'm not making it clear please tell me.

P.S. I just started designing my companies intranet web site.....

I'm using Dreamweaver MX2004
