<font face='Verdana'>Wish List for UD 5:
1) Heavily expanded SQL section (maybe even an O'Reilly SQL manual of some sort?)
2) PHP SUPPORT! (my #1 biggest reason for upgrading if I do)
3) Nested Repeat Regions

I could convince my employer to upgrade all of our UltraDev's (1) to 5 on the PHP addition alone.

If these can be added in for the next version i would be a <img src=../images/dmxzone/forum/icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> camper

I second the call for full CSS 2 (or even complete CSS 1!) support in layout mode. (Anyone tried to work with position:fixed selectors in DW/UD? It sucks big time.)

Honestly DW4 does so much already, add extentions to it and it really kicks butt, hand code forms??? why not use Notepad for crying outloud......GIVE IT TO ME! please?!

I would like to have an off-line means of using the DB connections. This would allow work on the road. JaneBuilder at seejanecode.com does this. It appears to be simple in reality. Just store the table structures in an xml format that the app can substitute for a live connection. This lets me work on the road or disconnected. I procedure could be set up to suck the table structures from a db based on the connection definition for remote use.

I AB-SO-LUTE-LY agree! While I wouldn't want to get too carried away, I'd love to be able to incorporate PHP pages more readily on my JSP site.

I would love to be able to use multiple server models on a site so that I could mix ASP, CFML, JSP and PHP pages.

Why must we go to a drop down menu to do the two most common (and valuable) functions there are.

<font face='Verdana'>Ok, adding to the list of features:</font id='Verdana'>

<ul><li>1. CSS1, CSS2, CSS-P support. This <b>includes</b> being able to use DIVs in a layout and modifying them without having the styles inline to the layer. It's so stupid that I have to use a text-editor to do visual layout and still have a nice external style sheet. Argh!</li>

<li>2. XHTML compliance. DOCTYPE switching for layout. DW needs a <b>built-in</b> preview, in the layout mode, of how a document will look with the various DOCTYPEs. please, <b>show me</b> what'll happen when I put a document into Strict in, say, IE 6, or any of the other browsers that change the display between Transitional and Strict.&lt;br&gt;

Also, properly nested, XHTML compliant code. Integrate Tidy if need be, but there's no reason why I still have to use tables if I don't want to. And right now I can't even use DW if I want to do a table-less layout.</li>

<li>3. Customizable tag placement: (i.e. let me change B into STRONG if that's what I want. same with I and EM. that is, without hacking into the program. That's lame.</li>

<li>4. A DOM-tree and the choice to make all popular Javascript operations (e.g. mouseovers, Show-Hide Layers, etc.) based on the DOM. At least as an option.</li>

<li>5. I have to agree with the need for the 3-stage development path. I've had to create 2 different DW Sites to accomplish this. Local to DEV, DEV to QA, QA to Live. It's a giant waste of time imho.</li>

<li>6. Oh yeah, and all the backend stuff that's being mentioned here. I don't touch that stuff, but i'm sure it's very important.</li></ul>

I'd love to see the same thing below, though with more pizzaz with updating multiple records using repeat regions as well! There's already a multiple records delete extension, now it'd be up to the extensiologists out there to create a multiple update thingee.

I think UD5's development (even UD4's) largely depends on the helpfulness of the so-called "extensiologists" out there. The more the merrier... MORE POWER TO ULTRADEV AND ALL UD-LOVERS!!! If not for UD... we wouldn't have existed!!!

Give me NESTED REPEAT REGIONS!!!!!!!!!!! You know all ov you want this too. It's just the best thing that could happen with all of this. Also, maybe having a SQL query executed using data from another query in the same page, inside of a repeated region, or something like that. Mmmm'kay?

Create your nested repeat in separate file. Give the variable "Repeat1__numRows" a uninque name everywhere it appears. Then include in you page. Simple.

I don't know if it's just me, but i when i've installed 30+ extensions, the menus get very sluggish. and the css menus are very slow if you have a lot of styles. Couldn't UD cache the menus and then have an extra pane in the options window, so you could re build menus if you wanted to, they would be rebuilt on startup. Css menus could have a button at the bottom 'rebuild'.

Easy

Okay my wish list:

Accessibility integration - I mean the ability to add the summary element to the table tag without hand coding, ID's for form input, the title element for images. Right now, even with the Accessibility pack you still have to hand code these and other things.

Better CSS support.

Full PHP support.

Full ASP 3.0 support. And some nod to ASP .NET. And if you do support .NET maybe the ability to pick your .NET language: C#, VB or even Python (I know this is asking a HUGE amount. Not to mention with Python you'd have to require that they have the proper software installed).

A built in DBMS interface that works with mySQL (not just Access and MS SQL). With the ability to add/delete fields, tables and databases. etc....

A decent SQL query builder. Something graphical. Just because I'm lazy and I hate typing the SQL.

Better integration with Fireworks. I hate having to launch Firework just to make a small change. Maybe a mini-Firework within UD.

Allow searching of the Assets panel, including the reference sections..

Oh and Please include nested recordsets and multi-table inserts. Oh and a multi-table deletion module might be nice (although this can handled by an extension),

That’s it… Oh and of course FIX THE KNOWN BUGS. I’d like to be able to include ASP in a library item, better layer handling- you know what they are.

If you have run a development shop which consists of a development server and a staging/test server and a production server you would have come accross this publishing nightmare:

When I'm finished developing a section of code or page and would like to promote to my staging server I have to goto windows explorer copy the file from the dev server and paste it into the appropriate folder on the staging server. I have to repeat the same procedure for promoting from stage server to production server. A process which becomes very combersome if I have files all over the place that need to be published onto a different server.

What I would like would be a "Publish To" option which will open a window of sorts and allow you to specify which files I would like to publish and to what server (location--&gt; remote or local) I would like to publish them to. The folder structure would be recursive and place all published files into their respective remote folders.

Anyone elese think this would be awsome?

Please bring this dream into fruition Macromedia UD team.

when I try to upload the database to a local or remote server from the UD site view, I get a 'file sharing violation' and UD often freezes. to upload the database after some alterations, I must close UD and upload using a separate FTP client. this is not the most efficient way to go... could something be done about that?

I would like to see XHTML support, ASP.NET and PHP support. Beef up the text editor in Ultradev. Make the text editor more like a slimmed down Ultraedit. I know I can make it an external editor, and thats nice to have the option, but it would be nice to see the apps native editor have more features so I dont need to open an external editor.

Let us un-attach and move menu bar items so we can dock them top left right or bottom of screen.

A BIG PLUS, have a Macromedia driver library disc with the package or at an additional (minimal fee) What do I mean by this? Having specialized ODBC or JDBC data drivers available for many different databases. Including obscure databases like OS400, Progress software, sybase etc. Most tutorials always deal just with SQL server or Oracle. Maybe partner with Merant. More information on how to setup connections with other DB's with either ODBC or JDBC connections.
